Paul Raymond Scott was an ordinary American boy from Ohio who left his life for our freedom at the age of 23. May 27, 1921 in the town of Clermont County, Ohio, on this day Frank R. Scott b.1893 - † .1980 and his wife Frances Scott b.1887 - † .1991 get their second son Paul Raymond Scott.

Paul grew up together with his brother Ivan Woodrow Scott who was born on January 19, 1918. Paul Raymond Scott played baseball in the school team at the Milford high school in the village of Terrace Park High, a town just outside of Cincinnati, Ohio.

Paul was a very good baseball player like his father, Frank Scott, who played in a semi - pro Baseball League as a 3rd baseman. The Boston Red Sox (a professional baseball team in the US) scouted Paul as a potential future for their team. The love of baseball was deep in the Scott family.

He also liked to play and sing his guitar. He was a friendly young man who enjoyed his youth. In 1941 Paul graduated from the Terrace Park High School.

After his exam Paul worked at a factory where they made paper and pulp in Cincinnati Ohio.

On May 3, 1941, his brother Ivan married his school love Mary Lee Scott (Hill). Ivan had met Mary at their Milford high school where they had all been on. Paul was a wedding witness of Ivan that day and Mary Lee's wedding witness was her sister Shirley.

Within months of the graduation ceremony on 30 September 1942, Paul was summoned for military service.

He responded and reported on 14 October 1942 for his active service in the "AAF" Army Air Force at Fort Thoma Kentucky Ohio.

On 3 November 1942, he was transferred to AA FTS Chicago Illinois Texas station 236 APO 639 or Sustineo Alas Training School. This was a technical training school for radio operators here he was classified in the 2905th Repl. & Tn. Gp.

After he had finished this training he was promoted to Sergeant on April 1, 1942, after which he was transferred to Ft Myers Florida where he received an extra training as a gunner this round he finished on May 21, 1943.

After successfully completing his training as a radio operator and gunner, the crews had to learn to work together. To learn this, every crew member had to follow a crew training. Since it had been made known that Paul had to fly in a B26 Marauder, on 21 May 1943 he was assigned to the 481 B sq 336 B Gp at AAB Avon Park Florida.

This was a training school for B26 Marauder bomber crews.

Letters from the pilot Lt Reese showed that the largest part of the Reese crew was composed at Avon Park.
The crew consisted of:
Pilot Lt. Reese, Radio operator Sgt Paul R Scott, Engineer SSgt Alex E Sundberg, Tail Gunner Sgt L Jacobs and Co-Pilot Sussman and Bombardier George M Walter.

On June 22th 1943 Lt Rees wrote a letter to his parents where he indicated that he and his crew performed a exercise mission on June 21th at low altitude of 400ft with 100lb practice bombs.

He also describes that the next day they would carry out a new mission with 300lb bombs with a time delay.

The Crew ended the training on September 15, 1943, and Op 1 October 1943 Sgt Paul R Scott departed  with his crew for OD (Overseas Duty).

The crew flew through the southern route with a new B26 Marauder to England. On October 14, 1943, they arrived in England and issued there new Marauder to the 9th USAAF Depot in Prestwick Or Horham. From there, the B26's were distributed to the different Bomb Groups they needed them at that time. The Reese crew left from there to Toomebridge Northern Ireland, (Combat Crew Replacement Centre Groups)
Toomebridge was just outside Belfast. The crew stayed for several weeks to practice combat missions. After that they had to report to their units (Bomb Groups) in England.

Toombridge lag net buiten Belfast.

On March 5, 1944, the Reese Crew was transferred from Ireland to England. They were send to Station 358 located in Earls Colne a small town in Essex  to the 453th Bomber Squadron 323 bomber Group of the 9th Army Airforce.

Since the United States had been carrying out bombing flights for about a year, there were also many losses. Because Crews were separated by killed and wounded crew members it was customary that experienced people whose crew was no longer complete were supplemented with replacement personnel.

Every new crew did get a experienced officer as a observer, he had to look if the crew could accomplishedd the next mission by there selfs.

This officer was Maj. C.Berryman and was added as Co-pilot.

Why  and when Sgt Brown was added to the Reese crew is at this moment still unclear.

As a result, Paul was merged with the "Reese" crew. The name of the crew was always the last name of the commanding pilot.

The crew consisted of six crew members, pilot, co-pilot, Radio operator / waist (side) gunner, bombardier, armament / turret (turret) gunner and and engineer tail (tail) gunner.

Paul Ivan's brother was also called up for military service in the meantime. He followed the bombardier training in Florida where he received his crew training with the "Skinner" crew, then he was shipped to Europe like Paul, where he was assigned as 2nd Lieutenant (bombardier) in the 8 th Airforce

On 10 April 1944, the Scott family receives a telegram from the Ministry of Defense that their son was MIA (Missing in Action) on 26 March above Holland.
From his IDPF file it appears that to many correspondence between family and the ministry of the six crewmembers, five were identified by the Germans and the sixth crewmember did not. It was assumed that this was Paul.  OnApril 27, 1948  the body of Paul was officially identified.
